Working on a project like this alone give you certain advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that I can move to other aspects of the game, like art.

If you have been following me on the various social networks you would know that I have been working on some design work recently. People tend to overlook certain things when playing a game; well because the are playing the game. This is understandable but there are a lot of things that you must consider when doing the art. You have to consider the big things that people will see as well as the small ones. Blocks are ironically a small thing when it comes to things people pay attention to. Even though it is the primary mode of control in the game, people tend to look at the color and move on (maybe even look at the background occasionally). Well, block design is still an important part at that is what I have been working on recently. Here are the some of the many different designs that I have come up with and the different situations that you may find them in.

Block Concepts

I am still trying to find the right style for them, whether that be complex or very simple. It needs to be good to look at (as this is what you are going to be paying attention to for the most part of the game).

So what do you think? Leave a comment below.

  1. Nice concept art. I agree that it is nice to be able to move between fields of work when making a game alone. I recommend the blocks have some sort of isometric design. 🙂

    1. I was thinking about having something like that. Lately, I have been leaning more towards a simplistic approach to the design. It still is up in the air at this point though.
